Which service is the best fit?

Royal Bank of Scotland business banking is available to eligible customers who are over 18 and have the right to be self employed in the UK. Specific account and service eligibility criteria apply.

Digital Banking or Bankline?

Bankline works better if you have bespoke needs or larger teams. Digital Banking works better if you want a simple service, without a monthly fee, and don’t need to set up different levels of access.

Am I eligible?

To get either Digital Banking or Bankline you need a Royal Bank of Scotland business bank account. That means you need to be a registered business/organisation. Digital Banking is available to all organisation types.

Additional criteria for Bankline

Bankline is available to most business types, but it isn’t available to sole traders or unincorporated clubs and societies

Fees

Digital Banking is the cheaper of the two options.

Digital Banking

There’s no monthly service fee for Digital Banking. 

There are still payment fees for making different kinds of payments.

Bankline

Bankline has a monthly fee, based on the number of accounts you add to Bankline. 

Fees effective until 31 August 2025:

  • 1-5 acccounts are £20 per month
  • 6-10 accounts are £80 per month
  • 11+ accounts are £160 per month.

 

Fees as of 1 September 2025:

  • 1 account is £10 per month
  • 2-5 acccounts are £20 per month
  • 6+ accounts are £20 + £5 per account over 6 (capped at £160).

 

Bankline also has payment fees that vary depending on the type of payment.

Users will all have the same level of access. They’ll be able to:

  • Change settings

Set what users can see and do by assigning them roles (eg. payment raiser) and limit access to specific accounts if needed.

Digital Banking is great for the essentials. If you manage more complex financial activity, Bankline might give you that extra flexibility.

  • Add up to 50 accounts per business. 
  • View transactions and balances held with other banks.

Payments you can make

On both you can make domestic and international payments. Bankline comes with customisable payment limits and additional options. 

Digital Banking

  • Make Faster Payments up to £50k.

  • Approve up to 15 payments at once.

  • Send international payments. 

  • Make bulk payments from bulk lists (up to 25 payees per payment).

  • Make Faster Payments up to £1 million. 
  • Approve up to 75 payments at once. 
  • Send international payments.  
  • Make bulk payments from bulk lists (up to a maximum of 3000 payees per payment). 


Additionally:  

  • Make CHAPS payments.  
  • Import payment files from external software (handy for high volumes of payments).  
  • Set your own payment limits.  
  • View summary of payment activity.

  • Fixed daily payment limit of £50k.

Bankline

  • Multifactor authentication for log in and payment approval.

  • Set the payment limits that work for you. 

  • Have two or more users to approve payments and changes, where needed.

  • Set which countries payments can be sent to. 

  • Set alerts for payment activity.

Mobile banking

Both Bankline and Digital Banking have mobile apps that are free to download. 

Once you’ve chosen your main service, you can sign up and get the app you need on your phone.

Each app has its own features, but here are some useful things you can do on both: 

  • Check balances and transactions in seconds.
  • Make and approve payments with your fingerprint or facial recognition (if your phone has these features).
