Websigner 2024

To future-proof the service, we’re moving to WebSigner as our long-term solution in 2024. WebSigner will make TrustAssured more stable, reliable, and secure for users of the service. To continue using TrustAssured, users will need to update to the current eSigner software to use WebSigner. This will be a large-scale change for some companies.

Why move to Websigner?

Microsoft have decommissioned Internet Explorer 11, which was the browser used for TrustAssured (Smartcard and Reader) to access the Bacs Payments Services Website (PSW). In February, we shared details on how you can continue to use eSigner to access the Bacs PSW through Edge in compatibility mode. Microsoft do not have plans to decommission compatibility mode at this point, however this may change in the future.

As such we have made the decision to upgrade to Websigner now to mitigate any future risk with accessing the service. In addition, Websigner brings the following benefits:

  • Available on both Microsoft Edge and Chrome browsers.
  • Simplified setup for customers (No more CD software installation).
  • New Gemalto SWAT readers have increased security.

What do you need to do?

To prepare for Websigner, you will need to install the latest version of the eSigner software bundle which has Classic Client v.6.4.5 included.

Once you have the latest Classic Client software, you will also need to ensure that you change your current alphanumeric PIN to numeric only. Your PIN can be updated from the Classic Client toolbox under Card Administration.

When your new reader arrives, and you have completed the above steps, you will be able to use your existing smartcard to access the Bacs PSW through the new Websigner browser extension.

When is this happening?

From 2024 we will start to roll-out Websigner compatible readers to all existing users of the service, free of charge, with the aim of moving everyone to Websigner by the end of 2024. Any additional readers will be charged at the current rate, please contact your RM for more details on charges.

In the meantime, you can continue to use the current eSigner software during the transition phase before we decommission. We will share further details regarding the decommission of Websigner in December 2024.
