How to clear temporary internet files and cookies?
To clear your temporary internet files and cookies follow the instructions for the internet browser you're using. If you need further guidance refer to your browser's support pages.
Internet Explorer
- Click on 'Safety' > 'Delete browsing history...'
- In the 'Delete Browsing History' window that opens ensure 'Cookies' and 'Temporary Internet files' are ticked and press 'Delete'
- Click OK to close the options
Alternatively, holding down the keys Ctrl + Shift + Delete will also open up the Delete Browsing History window.
Microsoft Edge
- Click More actions (they appear as 3 dots on the top right hand side of the browser).
- Click on 'Settings'.
- Under 'Clear browsing data', select 'Choose what to clear', then select 'Cookies and saved website data' and 'Cached data and files'.
- Click 'Clear'.
Alternatively, holding down the keys Ctrl + Shift + Delete will also open up the Clear browsing data window.
Google Chrome
- Click on the '3 horizontal lines' icon in the top right corner > 'More tools' > 'Clear browsing data...' on a PC
or
'Chrome' menu > 'Clear Browsing Data..' on a Mac. - Change the 'Obliterate the following items from:' drop down menu to 'the beginning of time'.
- In the 'Clear browsing data' popup that opens ensure 'Empty the cache' and 'Delete cookies and other site and plugin data' is ticked.
- Click on 'Clear browsing data'.
Alternatively, holding down the keys Ctrl + Shift + Delete (PC) or Command + Shift + Delete (MAC) will also open up the 'Clear browsing data' window.
Firefox
- Click on the '3 horizontal lines' icon in the top right corner > History > Clear Recent History...
- In the 'Clear All History' window that opens change the 'Time Range To Clear' drop down menu to 'Everything'
- Click 'Details' if the options of what to delete are not showing
- Ensure 'Cookies' and 'Cache' are ticked and press 'Clear Now'
Alternatively, holding down the keys Ctrl + Shift + Delete (PC) or Command + Shift + Delete (MAC) will also open up the 'Clear All History' window.
Safari
- Click on Safari (Top Left)
- Look in the top left hand corner and click the word Safari next to the Apple logo
- Click Clear History and Website Data
Opera
- Click on the 'Opera' menu in the top left of the window and select 'Settings' > 'Delete Private Data' on a PC
or
'Tools' > 'Delete Private Data' on a Mac - In the window that opens click 'Detailed Options' if the options of what to delete are not showing
- Ensure 'Delete session cookies', 'Delete all cookies' and 'Delete entire cache' are ticked and press 'Delete'
AOL
- Click on 'Settings' > 'Internet Properties' > 'Select Footprints To Clear' (PC only)
- In the window that opens ensure 'Cookies' and 'Browser Cache' are ticked and press 'Clear Selected Footprints'
