We have included guidance and frequently asked questions below on how the Return of Funds process work.

How do I use Mitek?

Mitek is the simplest and quickest way to get verified with no additional cost.

To use Mitek, please click on the link you have received by email and/or text to start the process. If you haven’t already had your link please email us at returnfunds@natwest.com or call us on 0800 046 1632.

Mitek will guide you through the process of scanning documents to verify your identification and address, alongside asking you to take a “selfie” to confirm it is you.

Please note: - Where more than one signature is required (e.g., joint account, entity etc.), each signatory will individually need to complete the verification process.

What if I don’t want to use digital verification?

Mitek is the simplest and quickest way to get verified with no additional cost. If you need any support to use Mitek please get in touch, you can email us at returnfunds@natwest.com or you can call us on 0800 046 1632.

If you would prefer to not use our digital verification service, we can provide you with instructions on how to provide certified copies of your identification.

I want to reclaim funds for a closed account, what are the steps for Manual verification?

Please provide a certified copy of the relevant documents from the lists below to help us verify that this is you.

1. Proof of Identity (one of the below)

Passport
UK driving licence (full or provisional)
EU/EEA photo card driving licence
EU/EEA national ID card (if applicable)

2. Proof of Address (one of the below)

Bank statement dated within the last 6 months for a personal account. This must include your residential address.
Credit Union statement (from a regulated Credit Union) dated within the last 6 months which includes your residential address.
Mortgage statement/Solicitor mortgage correspondence (a mortgage statement or mortgage/ house purchase correspondence from a solicitor dated within the last 12 months),
Utility bill/statement (e.g., gas, water, landline telephone, cable services, satellite TV, electricity bills), dated within the last 6 months. Note this needs to refer to the utility at the current residential address. We don’t accept mobile phone/ mobile internet data bills or TV license correspondence.
Council tax bill for the property that you currently reside at - must be less than 12 months old.
HMRC letter – either notice of tax coding or National Insurance confirmation letter dated within the last 12 months.

Who can certify my document?

Your documents will need to be certified by a professional as part of the verification process. The people listed below can certify your documents:

a branch colleague in any NatWest/RBS/Ulster Bank NI branch
a lawyer, solicitor or notary public who is a member of a recognised professional body
a chartered accountant who is a member of a recognised professional body

Please remember your certifier’s contact details should be available on the Internet.

What does the certifier need to do?

Photocopies must be certified on each page with the wording: 'Certified as a true copy of the original as seen by me' (or a statement with the same intended meaning).
Photocopies must be signed and dated by the certifier.
The certifier should record their full name, signature, their position, the name of their firm, their location, their contact details, and the date on the photocopies.
For copies of photo ID, please ensure they are certified with the wording: 'true likeness’.
If your original documentation is not in English, a certified translation will also need to be provided.
